Burn
I painted the majority of this painting on Main Street in Canmore in August, 2021
That morning as I was driving out from Calgary, I reached a section of highway that had retardant sprayed over it and helicopters were dumping water on flames right beside the highway. As the smoke hung low that day, the scene was on my mind and I think the heat comes through in this abstract interpretation of the Rocky Mountains.
Luckily it was mostly out by the time I drove home that night, but it was definitely a bad year for fires in western Canada.
